FIFA President Gianni Infantino is facing heavy criticism after his post-match comments following Argentina’s dramatic 3-2 extra-time win over Cape Verde.
🗣️ Infantino: “I suffered with Argentina today.”
The remark immediately sparked backlash from fans, who questioned why the FIFA President appeared to publicly side with one team during a World Cup match.
Realizing how his words could be interpreted, Infantino quickly clarified that he is neutral and supports football as a whole, attempting to walk back the statement.
Argentina were pushed to the absolute limit by a fearless Cape Verde side, needing extra time to escape with a 3-2 victory after one of the biggest scares of their title defence.
Even Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni admitted his side “suffered” throughout the match and praised Cape Verde for making life incredibly difficult for the reigning world champions
