MUNDUBILE PLEDGES BETTER FREE EDUCATION SYSTEM, PROMISES FREE UNIFORMS, BOOKS, SHOES AND PUPIL-TEACHER TRANSPORT

By Jane Mweetwa
Presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has pledged to introduce what he describes as a more comprehensive and effective free education system than the one currently being implemented by the UPND government.

Mundubile argued that the UPND’s free education policy has not achieved its intended objectives, because it is largely driven by political clout and hoodwink.

He said his administration would genuinely implement a better programme by providing learners with essential educational materials, including free school uniforms, textbooks, school shoes and transport.

According to Mundubile, the initiative would initially prioritize learners in rural communities before being rolled out to urban areas across Zambia.

He further promised to improve the welfare of teachers by ensuring they receive competitive salaries and enhanced employment benefits.

Among the proposed measures is the provision of a dedicated school vehicle or modern bus for every school to transport teachers to and from work, a move he said would improve their safety, ease transportation challenges and support the delivery of quality education.
