FORMER MWINILUNGA MP SAMAKAYI DUMPS THE UNDEMOCRATIC UPND
In a political development in North-Western Province, Honourable Newton Samakayi, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Mwinilunga, has officially resigned from the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) with immediate effect.
This decision follows heightened tensions within the party, especially after President Hakainde Hichilema publicly named Samakayi alongside three other UPND lawmakers—Garry Nkombo, Elijah Muchima, and Elias Mubanga—as dissenters who refused to support Constitution Amendment Bill No. 7.
The resignation of Samakayi is a critical setback for the UPND, particularly at a time when North-Western Province has become a fiercely contested political arena.
The National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP), with its growing influence, poses a formidable challenge to the UPND’s dominance in the region.
Losing a seasoned parliamentarian such as Samakayi not only weakens the party’s legislative presence but also signals potential cracks within its regional support base.
