END OF THE ROAD REACHED FOR LUNGU COURT BATTLES

END OF THE ROAD REACHED FOR LUNGU COURT BATTLES
The end of the road has been announced. Late Zambia’s 6th republican president, Edgar Chagwa Lungu is about to receive some well deserved dignity. At last, he will now be buried.

His body has been in the morgue for one year two weeks now. The whole spectacle is now expected to come to an end as the South African Supreme Court of Appeal will today, 23 June 2026, deliver Judgement in the matter in which the family of former President Edgar Lungu are challenging the decision of the lower court that ordered the repatriation of Mr. Lungu’s body for a state funeral in Zambia.

‎The judgement will pave way for either of the two parties to have access to the body and lay it to rest.

The state wants to accord the former head of state a full State funeral and bury him at home in Zambia, but the family believe that  they have the first choice of entitlement for burying him, and are against the wishes of the state and want to be in full charge of the burial process and bury the former head of State at a place of their choice which also includes South Africa.
