Police in Chipangali District, Eastern Province, have arrested a 61-year-old man from Kanjauke Village in Chief Chanje’s area for allegedly defiling and impregnating his 15-year-old biological daughter.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident, stating that the offence occurred on an unknown date in March 2026 at Kanjauke Village. He identified the suspect as Jackson Nyirenda, 61.
According to Mr. Mweemba, the victim, who is also dump, is currently three months pregnant.
Mr. Mweemba said the case came to light in June 2025, the victim fell ill and began showing signs of mental distress and her mother took her to a pastor at Mgubudu Trading Centre, who advised that the girl remain nearby for continued prayers.
It is alleged that the victim’s mother divorced Nyirenda in 2018 and following the pastor’s advice, she left the girl in the care of her biological father at Kanjauke Village, where he lives with his wife.
He said in March 2026, the mother visited her daughter where she disclosed that her father had sexual intercourse with her in a field within Kanjauke Village.
He said the mother initially dismissed the claim, suspecting her daughter’s statement was due to her mental illness and that Nyirenda denied the allegations when confronted.
Mr Mweemba explained that on 8 June 2026 at around 17:00 hours, the mother visited the victim again and noticed her daughter appeared pregnant and later reported the matter to Chief Chanje, who summoned the suspect.
Mr. Mweemba said that when Chief Chanje interviewed Nyirenda on 15 June 2026, he admitted to having sexual intercourse with his daughter and impregnating her.
He said the traditional leader then referred the matter to the police, who issued a medical report form.
It is alleged that a medical examination confirmed the victim is three months pregnant and police subsequently arrested Nyirenda and is expected to appear in court soon.
