“Stronger together” – HH calls for unity among UPND members
President Hakainde Hichilema has urged unity among UPND members ahead of the August 13 general elections.
He called on party structures to support all adopted candidates, saying the party was bigger than individual interests.
Speaking after arriving in Solwezi for a one-day working visit, the President said the country needed Members of Parliament who support his vision in order to sustain and build on the developmental gains achieved under the New Dawn administration.
He noted that while parliamentary and local government positions are important, the presidency remained the most critical offices as it provided overall leadership and direction for national development.
“The most important seat is that of the President. The rest are there to support the President and help formulate laws that enable the country to grow,” he said.
Mr Hichilema said councillors, mayors and Members of Parliament had an important role to play in supporting government programmes and policies aimed at improving the lives of citizens.
The President was in Solwezi for a one-day working visit, where he attended a service at Solwezi Airport Seventh-day Adventist Church before meeting party officials.
The Head of State is today expected in Muchinga Province for another one-day working visit.
