R100,000 FINE PER ILLEGAL WORKER? SOUTH AFRICA CONSIDERS TOUGH NEW CRACKDOWN ON EMPLOYERS ๐ฟ๐ฆ๐ผ๐จ
Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Jomo Sibiya says the government is proposing new legislation that could impose fines of up to R100,000 per employee on businesses found employing undocumented foreign nationals.
According to the proposal, employers who repeatedly break the law could also face imprisonment.
Supporters of the move argue that it will help protect jobs for South African citizens, strengthen compliance with labour laws and discourage the employment of undocumented workers.
Critics, however, warn that the proposal could place additional pressure on businesses and may be difficult to enforce effectively.
If adopted, the legislation would represent one of the toughest measures yet aimed at addressing illegal employment in South Africa.
