Hon. Makebi Zulu: A Man Who Chose Unity Over Ambition, and Country Over Self
By Thandiwe Ketiš Ngoma
In Zambia’s unfolding political history, there are moments that rise above ordinary politics, moments that reveal the true measure of leadership, sacrifice, and national consciousness. One such defining moment is the decision by Hon. Makebi Zulu to set aside his presidential ambitions and accept the role of running mate to Hon. Brian Mundubile. To his supporters, this is not a retreat from ambition, but a bold and deliberate act of statesmanship rooted in unity, patriotism, and sacrifice.
To many of his followers, Hon. Makebi Zulu is not merely a politician, but a selfless servant of the people. They describe him as a leader who chose unity over ambition and country over personal advancement. In their eyes, he embodies the full qualities of a president, including vision, discipline, courage, charisma, and intellectual strength. They believe that under normal political circumstances, he would naturally stand as one of Zambia’s strongest presidential contenders. Indeed, many of his supporters openly express that they would have preferred to see him lead from the front as a presidential candidate, convinced that he carries the attributes required to transform and lead the nation.
However, as Zambia’s political landscape evolved, a powerful call for unity began to emerge from citizens across the country. The message was clear: division weakens, but unity strengthens. In response to this national demand for cohesion, the Pamodzi Alliance, led by Hon. Makebi Zulu, and the Tonse Alliance, led by Hon. Brian Mundubile, moved beyond individual structures and embraced a shared vision of cooperation.
It is within this historic spirit of unity that Hon. Makebi Zulu made a defining political decision, agreeing to serve as running mate to Hon. Brian Mundubile. Supporters describe this as a rare and courageous sacrifice in modern politics, a moment where ambition was willingly surrendered for the sake of national direction and collective strength.
This, they say, is not ordinary political calculation, but patriotism at its highest level. It is the mark of a leader who understands that leadership is not always about occupying the top position, but about building something greater than oneself. To them, such a decision can only come from a true patriot, someone who places Zambia’s stability, unity, and future above personal political elevation.
With this spirit of humility and sacrifice, Hon. Makebi Zulu is increasingly regarded by his supporters as a leader with Zambia deeply at heart. They see in him a man who is always ready to serve, not for recognition, but for responsibility. It is this servant-hearted leadership that makes him stand out as a rare political figure, a star in a landscape often driven by competition, ego, and division
In their view, his journey is not defined by ambition denied, but by ambition elevated, refined through the demands of unity and national purpose. They argue that true leadership is not only proven by the pursuit of power, but by the wisdom to surrender it when the nation demands cohesion.
For his supporters, the conviction is unshakable and deeply emotional. Servant leadership and sacrifice are the highest expressions of statesmanship. It is precisely these qualities, humility, unity-driven vision, and unwavering patriotism, that they believe will ultimately propel Hon. Makebi Zulu to the highest office in the land, the presidency of Zambia.
