AM NOT SICK, I JUST DECIDED TO LOSE WEIGHT TO AVOID OBESITY- DR. POLLEN
Dr. Gabriel Pollen said he is healthy and stronger than ever, addressing public concern over his recent weight loss.
“I’ve had a lot of friends, colleagues, acquaintances and strangers message me lately, worried about my weight loss,” Pollen said in a statement. “Some asked if I’m ill or going through a tough time. Some mocked me, and others made unsound claims. I get it. We’re all different, driven by different values, perspectives and interests.”
Pollen, 44, said he chose the weight-loss route because of rising obesity and hypertension rates in Zambia and globally. He cited a recent ZNBC report from Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital showing 40 out of every 60 patients present with elevated blood pressure. Doctors attribute the trend to high salt intake, excess weight, lack of exercise and smoking.
“At 44, I’m the lightest I’ve been in 25 years, and honestly the strongest and healthiest I’ve ever been,” Pollen said. “I’m lifting heavier than ever, my BMI is well within the healthy range, and after 30 years of trying, I’m finally a member of the ‘six-pack abs club.’”
Pollen said fitness is his stress valve. He trains at 4 a.m., walks 5-10 km before work, and logs 15,000-20,000 steps daily while balancing work and family.
He credited Pollen Studio at Woodlands Mall in Lusaka for photos marking the milestone.
“So no, I’m not ill. I’m healthy, strong and focused,” he said. “If this inspires even one person, it’s worth it.”
