JULIUS MALEMA QUESTIONS ANTI-FOREIGNER CLAIMS AFTER 300 GHANAIANS LEFT SOUTH AFRICA: “HOW MANY JOBS WERE CREATED FOR SOUTH AFRICANS?”
EFF leader Julius Malema has sparked a fierce national debate after reacting to reports that 300 Ghanaian nationals had left South Africa to return home.
Speaking during a press Q&A, Malema challenged claims that foreign nationals are responsible for South Africa’s unemployment crisis, asking:
“Ghanaians are gone. How many jobs have been created for South Africans out of 300?”
Malema said the belief that foreign nationals are “stealing jobs” from South Africans is a myth and argued that unemployment is caused by deeper economic and political failures, not migrants.
His comments come amid growing tensions over immigration crackdowns, deportations and repatriation flights involving Ghanaian nationals, which have divided South Africans online.
The EFF leader’s remarks immediately triggered heated reactions, with supporters praising him for confronting xenophobia while critics accused him of ignoring the frustrations of unemployed South Africans struggling to find work.
The debate has now reignited broader national questions around: • Immigration and border control
• Unemployment
• Foreign-owned businesses
• Xenophobia
• Economic inequality
• Government failure to create jobs
Social media users remain deeply divided, with some agreeing with Malema that deporting foreigners does not automatically create jobs, while others insist undocumented immigration increases pressure on already limited opportunities and public services.
