ZAMBIA POLICE DISMISSES SOCIAL MEDIA CLAIMS ATTRIBUTED TO INSPECTOR GENERAL

The Zambia Police Service has dismissed as false and misleading information circulating on social media, particularly on a Facebook page identified as “The Candidates,” which allegedly attributes statements to Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba concerning Mr. Brian Mundubile and Mr. Makebi Zulu.

In a statement issued by Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi, the Police Service said the publication did not originate from the institution and should not be regarded as authentic.

Mr. Chilabi expressed concern over what the Service described as a growing trend of misinformation targeting the Inspector General and the Zambia Police Service.

According to the statement, this is the third incident recorded in recent weeks involving what the Police termed false, defamatory and misleading publications directed at the Inspector General and the institution.

The Zambia Police Service said such publications appear intended to mislead members of the public and create the impression that the institution is involved in political matters.

The Service stressed that it remains professional and committed to executing its constitutional mandate without political influence.

Police have since advised members of the public to disregard the publication in question and exercise caution when consuming or sharing information from unverified social media sources.

The statement further urged the public to rely on official communication channels for accurate information relating to the Zambia Police Service and warned against the spread of misinformation that could undermine public trust and institutional integrity.
