PRESIDENT HICHILEMA PLAYS IMINGALATO ON NEVERS MUMBA

The nomination day for President Hakainde Hichilema was characterized by a visible show of solidarity from various United Party for National Development (UPND) Alliance presidents, including Highvie Hamududu, Charles Milupi, Felix Mutati, and Nevers Mumba.

This public display was intended to underscore the strength and unity of the alliance as they prepared to contest the elections

President Hichilema, accompanied by these allies, presented himself for nomination, a crucial step in formalizing his candidacy.

However, the occasion that began with an outward appearance of unified support soon became a subject of speculation and discussion due to an unexpected development regarding the running mate position.

Reports emerging from the nomination event suggest a significant misalignment between expectations and reality concerning the running mate selection.

Specifically, Mumba, reportedly harbored an understanding that he was slated to be President Hichilema’s running mate.

This perception, whether explicitly promised or implicitly communicated, led to a profound sense of disappointment when Vice President Mutale Nalumango was ultimately presented and accepted as the running mate.

The narrative suggests that Mumba felt dribbled – “imingalato” or betrayed by President Hichilema, particularly after having invested considerable effort and, according to reports, even compromised his reputation in supporting some of President Hichilema’s unbecoming political endeavors.

Witnesses observed Mumba’s subsequent demeanor, describing him as aloof and preoccupied with his mobile phone throughout the nomination proceedings.

His reported departure from the venue, citing illness, and his subsequent absence from congratulatory gatherings with President Hichilema, further fueled speculation about his deep dissatisfaction.

Though snubbed, Mumba has promised to be on the campaign trail with President Hichilema.
