NGOCC BOARD CHAIRPERSON ARRESTED FOR SUPPORTING FEMALE MAYORAL CANDIDATE



CONDUCT LIKELY TO CAUSE BREACH OF PEACE – LUSAKA

May 22, 2026 – The Zambia Police Service wishes to confirm the arrest of twelve (12) people for conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, contrary to the laws of Zambia.


The incident occurred on May 22, 2026, around 13:00 hours at the Lusaka Civic Centre, where the filing in of nominations for aspiring mayoral candidates was taking place.

It is alleged that the suspects engaged in disorderly conduct during the process.



The suspects are:

1. Cecilia Chibesa, of Matero

2. Lucy Chawinga, of Kamwala South
3. Charles Gondwe, of Kamwala South

4. Jackson Mulikiti, of Lukulu Road, Kamwala



5. Kelvin Muleya, of New Kasama
6. Margret Nguleta, of Bauleni

7. Ganizani Moonga, of Northmead

8. Ketina Nanyangwe, of Woodlands

9. Miracle Phiri, of Chawama

10. Chileshe Romano, of Garden Park

11. Vincent Siandwebe, of Roma

12. Beauty Katebe, of Chalala.



All suspects have been formally charged and arrested with conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, contrary to Section 178(f) of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.



They have since been released on police bond pending court appearance.

The Zambia Police Service reminds members of the public to remain peaceful and follow lawful procedures during public and civic activities.
