Hichilema to announce running mate at 13 hours, today!
PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema is today expected to file his presidential nomination papers as he seeks re-election for a second term in office.
The Head of State, who is the UPND Alliance presidential candidate, is scheduled to file his nomination at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre before the Electoral Commission of Zambia — ECZ.
Attention is now centred on who President Hichilema will unveil as his running mate ahead of the August 13 general elections, with the ‘announcement’ expected at 13:00 hours today, the time he is scheduled to file his nomination.
Speculation remains high on whether Vice-President Mutale Nalumango will be retained or if the President will opt for a candidate from one of the UPND Alliance partner parties.
The UPND Alliance comprises the Party of National Unity and Progress led by Highvie Hamududu, the Movement for Democratic Change headed by Felix Mutati, the New Nation Party under Nevers Mumba, and the Alliance for Democracy and Development led by Charles Milupi.
Meanwhile, Lusaka is expected to be awash with red as thousands of UPND members and supporters turn out to back President Hichilema’s bid for a second term.
