Tupac spent years thinking his father was d:ea:d.
That’s what his mother, Afeni Shakur, told him about Billy Garland. Pac even p:oured that p:ain into his music, talking about a dad who was already “gone” before they ever had a real relationship.
Then everything changed in 1994.
After Tupac was sh0t 5 times at Quad Recording Studios in New York on November 30, Billy Garland saw the news on TV and rushed straight to Bellevue Hospital.
When he entered the room and introduced himself, Tupac was heavily medicated and suspicious. At first, he allegedly thought the man standing there was either p0lice or somebody sent to finish the a:ttack.
But once Billy explained who he was, the mood changed.
Billy later said “He’s my son. I never wanted m0ney from him or anything like that. I just wanted him to know I cared.”
The two finally talked face to face. Tupac forgave him, but also made it clear that he didn’t owe him anything.
Sadly, Pac was killed two years later.
After Tupac’s d:eath, Billy Garland later went to court trying to claim half of his estate, but the request was denied.
Today, Billy Garland is 76 years old and still speaks publicly about his son.
Some pain never really leaves… it just looks different depending on who lived through it.
