ANC national chairperson Gwede Mantashe has confirmed that President Cyril Ramaphosa will not resign despite mounting political pressure linked to the Phala Phala controversy.
Speaking during an interview, Mantashe said the ANC’s position is clear and that the party does not believe Ramaphosa should make things easy for opposition parties demanding his removal
His comments come after President Ramaphosa himself publicly stated that he will not resign, insisting that he has not committed any crime, stolen public money or violated his oath of office. The President also said he has fully cooperated with investigations and plans to continue fighting the matter through legal processes.
The ANC leadership has continued to rally behind Ramaphosa as opposition parties intensify calls for accountability over the Phala Phala matter. Meanwhile, supporters of the President argue that he is facing a coordinated political attack aimed at weakening his leadership.
Ramaphosa’s refusal to resign is now expected to deepen political tensions as the battle over Phala Phala continues dominating national discussions.
