BREAKING NEWS: South African President Cyril Ramaphosa says “I will not resign after Constitutional Court judgement but will take Independent Panel’s report on review”.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has clarified that, he will not resign after the Constitutional Court judgement but, will take the Independent Panel’s report on review
The President was addressing the Nation on Monday evening at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, he said the Constitutional Court did not issue any judgement directing him to resign but, in the recent judgement, the court highlighted that, the report could be taken for review.
“While there have been calls in some circles that I should resign, nothing in the Constitutional Court judgment compels me to resign my office.
The Constitutional Court made no finding of any kind regarding my alleged conduct. The Court made no finding on whether there was prima facie evidence of misconduct, nor if the alleged conduct, if established, justifies impeachment and the removal of the President.
Instead, the Constitutional Court judgment reinforces the principles, rights and processes underpinning our constitutional order.
This explicitly includes the right to take the report of the independent panel on review. I therefore respectfully want to make it clear that I will not resign,” said the South African President
