PRESIDENT HICHILEMA ACCORDS STATE FUNERAL TO ECL, DECLARES 7-DAY NATIONAL MOURNING



Government has accorded a state funeral to late former President Edgar Lungu who died on Thursday 5th June, 2025 in Pretoria, South Africa.



Addressing the media in Lusaka this afternoon, Secretary to Cabinet Patrick Kangwa said President Hakainde Hichilema has accorded a state funeral to Mr. Edgar Lungu in recognition of his immense contribution to the nation as the Sixth President of Zambia.



Mr. Kangwa says the body of the late former President will arrive in Zambia on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, while the funeral gathering will be at Belvedere Lodge along Leopard’s Hill Road in Kagulonga, Lusaka.



He says in keeping with national protocol for the passing of a former Republican President, President Hichilema has declared a seven-day period of national mourning from Sunday, June 8 to Saturday, June 14, 2025.
