I don’t know Jay Jay, says witness in witchcraft trial

A state witness has told the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court that he does not know the Emmanuel Jay-Jay Banda, that allegedly hired the two accused persons through his brother Nelson Banda, to harm President Hakainde Hichilema using charms at an agreed amount of K43.2 million.

George Mwale, an immigration officer, also told the court that a live chameleon that was found at the crime scene as part of the charms was disposed off by the arresting officer. 

The witness was testifying in a matter in which Leonard Phiri, 43 from Sinda, Eastern Province and Jasten Candunde 42, from Mozambique are facing two counts of possessing charms and professing knowledge of witchcraft in an alleged plot to bewitch the Head of State.

When the matter came up for commencement of trial, Mwale told the court that on November 22, 2024, he was informed by his supervisor that there were three immigrants who had camped at a named lodge in Roma.

The witness said upon reaching the named lodge, he and other team members
