PF MPS URGE ECL TO STEP AWAY FROM POLITICS
By Darius Choonya
Several Patriotic Front (PF) Members of Parliament (MPs) have urged former President Edgar Lungu to step away from active politics following a Constitutional Court ruling that disqualifies him from contesting future elections, as he has already served two terms in office.
At a media briefing held at Parliament Buildings, twenty MPs, led by Kantanshi MP Anthony Mumba, called on Mr. Lungu to embrace the role of a statesman and to support President Hakainde Hichilema and his government in their efforts to advance Zambia’s development.
The MPs also emphasized the importance of dialogue between President Hichilema and Mr. Lungu, urging the two leaders to work together in the interest of national unity and the country’s progress.
Mr. Lungu, who left office in 2021 after losing the presidential election, has recently expressed interest in returning to active politics and seeking re-election.
